Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900 – 1944) wrote the classic The Little Prince in 1943. But reading it even today, we are struck by the uncanny ability of the author to enter completely the imaginative universe of a child’s mind. At the same time, we as adults realize the deeper value of this book in exploring an alternative, innocent world away from the greed and power plays of humans on our sad planet. The current translation also highlights from a postcolonial perspective his implicit and complex engagement with the colonial world. Thus, the book today can engage the reader at even more levels than has been the case historically.
